The Location Of Barbados

Barbados is the easternmost island in the Caribbean also known as the West Indies.  On the east side of the island lies the mighty Atlantic Ocean while the calm Caribbean Sea is located to the west. Barbados is Geographically located at 13 degrees north and 59 degrees west with an area of 430 square kilometers  or 166 square miles. It is situated about 200 miles (320 km)  NNE of Trinidad and Tobago, and around 100 miles (160 km) ESE of St. Lucia.  The highest point on the island is Mount Hillaby, which stands 1104 feet above sea level. The island slopes down until it reaches the sea. The capital, Bridgetown, is located on the Caribbean side of the island.  Due to Barbados' location, the island enjoys a year round warm and pleasant climate, except for rainy conditions where it can become a bit chilly.



Location: Most eastern island in the Caribbean sea, north of Trinidad & Tobago and east of St. Vincent.

Area: 431 square kilometers or 166 square miles,around 2 and a half times the size of Washington, DC

Coastline: 97 kilometers

Climate: tropical with a dry season from January - June and a rainy season from June to October.

Highest Point: Mount Hillaby, 1104 feet

Terrain: relatively flat gradually rising to the central highland region.

Natural Hazards: Hurricanes or storms, most of which bypass the island. There is flooding in certain areas due to heavy rainfall.
